Release Notes

The “Show SharePoint Version in Office Documents 2010” solution can be used to extract version information stored in Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 and Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 document libraries and display it within Microsoft Office documents.

This solution utilises the new sandbox features introduced in SharePoint 2010, which allows site collection administrators to deploy solutions into their sites, preventing the need to install the solution directly onto SharePoint servers by a farm administrator.

Version Information

28th October 2010 - Version 1.1: Fixes a problem where the document publisher was appearing in the Approved By column rather than the person approving the document

Reviews for this release

Activated in SharePoint 2013 Enterprise. Followed the directions and everything worked as expected except when it came time to embed the columns into a 2010 Word document...the columns were not found in the Quick Parts. Still trying to figure out why,,, Edit: Didn't notice the 2 content types when uploading a document which always defaulted to the 1st type which was not "SharePoint Version type". Corrected that and everything works flawlessly! Great work ... thank you!

Nice solution though one of its dangerous elements is the binding of 3 eventreceivers to ALL existing + new document libraries in your sitecollection (ListTemplateId="101"). The implementation of the eventreceivers sometimes seems to cause locking issues during checkin/checkout of documents (havent found the cause yet, but removal of the eventreceivers stops the problem from occuring)

Good, but ... Imagine a secretary. She opens version 1.1 from the library, makes changes, saves it - current version is 1.2 in the library. The property field in her word document remains 1.1 She prints her document and sends it to the customer, then closes her document. What version did she print out? 1.1 or 1.2? On the paper it's 1.1 - but actually it's 1.2.

I'm no SharePoint guru, but so far so good! This is working in WSS 3.0. You have to be using the new XML formats (docx, xlsx, etc). IE, this won't work with Office 2003 documents...
